Privacy Policy
This page explains what the echoRnr app keeps on your phone, what leaves your phone, and why. It applies to echoRnr on iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android.
Contents
1.Who we are
echoRnr is a local-first running app. The runs you record live on your phone.
An account is optional. Friends and sharing are optional. You can use echoRnr signed out and nothing about your runs leaves the phone.
Operated by the echoRnr team. Contact support@echornr.com.
2.The short version
- GPS tracks, point-by-point heart rate, weight, shoes (Gear Box), and your run library stay on the phone.
- Signing in creates an account (email, Apple, or Google) and a handle, like @alex.
- Sharing sends a run summary to people you choose — not the raw GPS trail.
- Feedback and Report go to support@echornr.com.
- Delete account removes the cloud account and leaves the runs on the phone.
- We do not sell personal information. We do not show ads. We do not run third-party analytics or crash reporters in the app today.
3.Data that stays on your phone
- Recorded runs: time, distance, pace, GPS points, elevation, splits, a weather snapshot, an optional photo, optional heart rate from a Bluetooth belt or Apple Watch, and a calorie estimate.
- Hand-entered runs: a summary only, with no GPS track.
- Runs imported from Apple Health or Health Connect: the workout summary and the source app's name only — not that app's route.
- Gear Box (shoes and shoe photos): phone only, unless you make a backup zip.
- Body weight: used to estimate calories. Your weight is never uploaded. A share may include a calorie number, never the weight.
- Preferences: units, whispers, auto-pause, share-field switches, your last heart-rate belt, and similar settings.
4.Health data (Apple Health / Health Connect)
echoRnr connects to Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android only with your permission. You can change that permission at any time in your phone's settings.
What we read
- Workouts, heart rate, and weight — only after you allow it.
- Historical running workouts — only when you tap Settings → Privacy → Import runs from Health. Opening the app does not import your Health history.
What we write
- When write access is allowed, echoRnr saves your echoRnr runs to Apple Health or Health Connect so they can appear in Fitness or other Health Connect apps.
Live heart rate
- Apple Watch heart rate is used during a live run when the echoRnr Watch app is allowed to read it.
- A Bluetooth chest strap or armband can send live BPM to the phone during a run.
What we do not do with Health data
- Health data is not sold, and it is not used for advertising.
- Raw Health samples are not uploaded as a library.
- A friend share may include average heart rate and per-split BPM only if you left those share switches on.
5.Location
echoRnr uses your location to:
- record a route while you run,
- keep a run recording when the screen is locked,
- show current weather, and
- attach finish-line weather when you save a run.
Background (“Always”) location access exists so a run keeps recording with the screen locked. We do not track you when you are not recording a run or refreshing weather.
Raw GPS points stay on the phone. A share can include a simplified route line on a map if that switch is on — not the full point trail.
6.Account and handle
- Signing in is optional. You can use email, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google.
- You choose a handle. Your handle is how friends find you, and it is how the Feed and lock-screen alerts name you — for example, @alex.
- Your profile can include an optional photo. When you are signed in, that avatar is stored so friends can see it.
- Email confirmation and password reset are handled by our authentication provider, Supabase.
7.Friends, shares, and Feed
Sharing is something you do on purpose. Auto-share is off until you turn it on. You can share a run with one friend or with all friends.
What a shared run summary can include
| Field | Sent? |
|---|---|
| Distance, time, pace | Always |
| Date and time | If switch on |
| Average heart rate and split BPM | If switch on |
| Calories | If switch on |
| Splits | If switch on |
| Weather | If switch on |
| Photo (when the run has no route) | If switch on |
| Ice Box awards | If switch on |
| echo run extras | If switch on |
| Simplified route line | If switch on |
| Raw GPS points | Never |
| Body weight | Never |
| Gear Box | Never |
Props
Friends can give props (a star) on a shared run. That can send a lock-screen alert such as “@alex gave props.”
Block and Report
- Block hides you and that person from each other and removes the friendship.
- Unblock lifts the block but does not restore the friendship.
- Report sends that person's handle and your reason to support so we can review it.
8.Photos and camera
Profile, run, and shoe photos are optional. echoRnr uses the camera or photo library only when you choose to add one.
- Run and profile photos can be uploaded when you share a run or set an avatar while signed in.
- Shoe photos stay on the phone unless you save a backup zip.
9.Notifications
If you allow notifications, echoRnr can alert you when a friend shares a run, when someone gives props, and about friend requests and related activity.
To deliver these, we store a push token for your device. Alerts name people by handle.
10.Weather, maps, and races
- Weather: current and finish-line weather come from Open-Meteo, using a coarse location.
- Maps: map tiles come from OpenStreetMap when you view a route.
- Events: the Events tab lists upcoming races from a catalog synced from public race listings. Tapping Register opens the race's site outside the app.
11.Backup
Settings → Privacy → Backup runs creates a zip file that you save yourself. It can contain a spreadsheet of your runs, run photos, Gear Box, optional weight, and local share receipts.
We do not receive that zip unless you email it to us.
12.What we do not do
- No ads.
- No sale of personal information or Health data.
- No third-party marketing SDKs.
- No use of the device advertising identifier.
The backup spreadsheet is named EchoRun.xlsx. That is a historic filename only.
13.Who processes data for us
These services handle data so echoRnr can work:
- Supabase — sign-in, database, file storage, and email-verification and push functions.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, HealthKit, push notifications, and the App Store.
- Google — Sign in with Google, Health Connect, and Google Play.
- Open-Meteo — weather.
- OpenStreetMap — map tiles.
- Microsoft 365 — email delivery of feedback and reports to support@echornr.com.
Each of these companies has its own privacy policy, which we do not control.
14.How long we keep it
- On your phone: until you delete the run, use Delete all local data, or uninstall the app (unless you later restore a backup).
- In the cloud: your account, handle, friendships, shares, stars, feedback, reports, and push tokens are kept until you delete your account — or, for a report, as long as we need it to handle abuse.
- Delete account (in Settings) removes the cloud account and related cloud data, then signs you out. Runs on the phone stay.
- Uninstalling the app does not delete your cloud account. Use Delete account first, or email us.
15.Your choices
- Stay signed out and use echoRnr on the phone only.
- Turn optional share fields off.
- Block, Report, or Unblock people.
- Delete a share, a run, all local data, or your cloud account.
- Change Location, Health, Bluetooth, Camera, Photos, and Notifications access in your phone's system settings.
- Email support@echornr.com to ask what we hold about your account or to request deletion.
16.Children
echoRnr is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
17.Changes
When our practices change, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
